By this point, something should feel off.
Cholesterol alone doesn’t explain what we see in practice.
So what does?
To answer that, you have to zoom out.
Because what’s happening in your bloodstream isn’t static.
It’s a system.
At any given moment, particles are entering circulation.
And particles are being removed.
That’s it.
Two forces.
Production.
Clearance.
The number of particles in your bloodstream reflects the balance between them.
If production increases, particle levels rise.
If clearance slows, particle levels rise.
Different mechanism.
Same outcome.
And when both happen at the same time, the effect compounds.
More particles entering.
Fewer leaving.
Levels climb faster than expected.
This is where things start to organize.
Because patterns that once seemed disconnected begin to make sense.
Some people primarily have a clearance problem.
Their body doesn’t remove particles efficiently.
Others have a production problem.
Their liver is sending too many particles into circulation.
Most fall somewhere in between.
Different starting points.
Same system.
And this explains something that doesn’t get talked about enough.
Two people can have the same cholesterol level…
and arrive there through completely different biology.
One might have low production and poor clearance.
Another might have high production and strong clearance.
Same number on paper.
Different system underneath.
And that matters.
Because what drives risk isn’t just how much cholesterol is present.
It’s how many particles are circulating.
And how long they persist.
More particles.
More exposure.
More opportunity for the process that leads to plaque.
So the real question isn’t just:
“What is my cholesterol?”
It’s:
How many particles are being produced?
How many are being cleared?
And where is the system out of balance?
Because once you understand that…
you stop chasing a number.
And start understanding a system.
